Fifth Annual Spring Gardening Forum
Sponsored by the Haverhill, Groveland,
Georgetown, and Boxford Garden Clubs
Biologist, writer, gardener and storyteller Roger Swain will entertain
and inform us about some of his favorite flowers as well as some of the
new trends in vegetables, including heirloom tomatoes. Nunan's has again
offered us a warm, colorful venue, a paradise for us in the midst of winter.
In addition, they are offering garden club members a 20% discount on store
items good for one week. It's a wonderful opportunity to connect with
other neighboring clubs and share ideas. HGC members will have a chance
to carpool for this event, so there's no excuse not to be there!

Sowing the Seeds of Seed - Julie McIntosh Shapiro

about buying seeds instead of plants. She will explain the germination process,
and how we can start seedlings that can mature into great plants-- whether
trees, shrubs, annuals or perennials. We will learn what it takes to make
your seed growing successful.

Haverhill Garden Club's Annual Plant Sale
Come join us on Bradford Common for the 2012 version of Haverhill Garden
Club’s plant sale. Plan to come as early as possible to get the best
selection of perennials from members’ gardens, as well as flowering annuals,
herbs and vegetable plants that will be ready for transplanting to your
space. Club members are happy to steer you in the right direction for plants
well-suited to your yard—knowing a bit about your sun/shade requirements
and soil type (wet, dry/clay,sandy) will help us choose the ones most likely
to be successful for you. Plants sold at the sale have already shown to
be hardy here, and are likely to perform well for you too! Whether you are
new to gardening, or are seeking a special plant, you will find something
you need here, and get lots of friendly advice too. Who knows? Perhaps
you’ll be a Haverhill Garden Club member next year, contributing and selling
along with us. Hope to see you there!
Proceeds from the sale are used to purchase plant material for the Welcome
to Haverhill Signs as well as the several Civic Gardens that are maintained
by the Club in the City of Haverhill. The Haverhill Garden Club is a
member of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts.

When: Saturday May 19, 2012
